Abstract
“The global sports industry is professionalizing, with heightened stakes and increasing investments in talent, analytics, and fan experiences” (). The days when sports fans went to the stadium to watch the game and left straight away may be over. The trend is moving towards a more exciting matchday experience. Thus, fans arrive early to take advantage of the entertainment zone inside the stadium complex for food, shopping, and entertainment. No matter the match's result, they celebrate in the stadium bars. These moments of sharing between fans create a fun and memorable moment for them. Therefore, by owning and managing mixed-use entertainment areas, the organisers of today's major sporting events are generating new sources of income and at the same time enhancing the fan experience. These zones typically include shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, offices and living spaces. As a result, visitors enjoy themselves all year round, strengthening the link between the sports organisation and the spectators.
