Abstract

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an invasive procedure widely used today. ERCP is a gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure. It is used in the management of pancreaticobiliary diseases. It has a higher risk of complications than other endoscopic procedures. Endoscopic procedures such as ERCP can cause patients to experience anxiety. A significant proportion of patients undergoing gastroscopy have been reported to experience high levels of anxiety. High levels of anxiety may negatively affect the endoscopy process and the patient. Anxiety may be related to the procedure causing pain, complications that may occur, or fear of being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease or a fatal disease. Pain is a common symptom following ERCP. This symptom can reduce satisfaction and is one of the main reasons for increased anxiety. Currently, holistic approaches are becoming increasingly popular in reducing anxiety and enhancing the quality of life during invasive procedures. Music, a simple and cost-effective intervention, stands out as a prominent holistic approach. Furthermore, music increases endorphin secretion, helping to relax the individual and can reduce anxiety by positively affecting pain tolerance. Nurses can use complementary methods, such as music, as part of holistic nursing care.
