Abstract

Feedback-informed treatment (FIT) has demonstrated clinical benefits, such as improved patient outcomes and reduced dropout rates. However, its impact on organisational efficiency, including therapy duration and waiting times in routine psychiatric, is less understood. This study provides evidence that implementing FIT in adult psychiatric outpatient care is associated with reduced therapy duration and more favourable waiting time trajectories, without evidence of deterioration in available patient-reported outcome data. FIT implementation was associated with shorter therapy duration within the FIT clinic and a more favourable waiting time trajectory compared with the control clinic. Given the observational design and modest effect sizes, these findings should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating rather than causal evidence of improved efficiency. This can inform quality improvement initiatives and policy decisions aimed at addressing systemic challenges in mental health services.
