Abstract

Financial conflicts of interest among guideline authors are common, but contemporary specialty-specific data in gastroenterology and hepatology are limited. Nearly half of author appearances on recent US gastroenterology and hepatology guidelines received relevant manufacturer payments, disclosure discordance was frequent, and only 4 of 13 guidelines met assessed transparency standards. Guideline developers should adopt standardised, author-level, externally verifiable conflict-of-interest reporting and clearly designate leadership roles.
