Abstract
Newborns with in-utero selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) exposure are at risk for adverse outcomes including altered physiological and behavioural adaptation after birth. The association between newborn outcomes and newborn feeding method (breastfeeding vs formula feeding) has not been investigated. Newborns who are in-utero SSRI exposed and exclusively breastfed after birth have a reduced risk of prolonged hospital stay but a higher risk of emergency department visits and readmission to hospital as compared with formula-fed newborns.
