Public health research has mostly focused on firearm injuries in high-income contexts, leaving the broader arms industry largely unexamined. Little is known about the public health impacts of weapons production and trade, especially in the Middle East. This paper highlights the arms industry as a neglected commercial determinant of health beyond the narrow focus on firearms, identifying key pathways through which militarisation and weapons trade affect public health and the environment.
