Abstract

This study calls for a continuity of care model for undocumented migrants in the first 1000 days of life. It presents the experiences of undocumented migrant mothers accessing maternal and infant healthcare across Switzerland and gives a voice to this vulnerable group. Availability of healthcare insurance as well as resourceful actors like social workers and midwives are core to improving maternal and infant healthcare access among undocumented migrants. Ensuring universal access to healthcare is one of the most fundamental yet complex challenges faced by healthcare systems. Access to healthcare framework encompasses five key dimensions: availability, accessibility, affordability, adequacy and acceptability. It provides a structured lens to explore how systemic, economic and social factors interact to shape healthcare-seeking behaviours and outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations. Ensuring access to these services for undocumented women is a critical step toward ensuring health equity and reducing long-term disparities.
