Abstract
Injuries are the primary cause of death worldwide, and the elderly are a vulnerable population. In the Gyeongnam province, a disproportionately large elderly population exposes residents to a higher risk of fatal outcomes. Busan had a high proportion of severe trauma from fall (55.2%) and the highest self-harm/suicide rate (80.3%) nationwide. Meanwhile, Ulsan recorded a nontraumatic severe injury fatality rate of 21.4%, exceeding the 18.5% national average. Gyeongnam showed above-average statistics for incidence, fatality, and disability overall. Region-tailored policies are needed: Busan requires fall prevention and youth mental health support, Ulsan demands suicide prevention strategies, and Gyeongnam needs improved medical access.
