Abstract

Neurodegenerative diseases are central nervous system (CNS) disorders presenting with progressive degeneration and necrosis of neurons, and are generally characterized by the accumulation of misfolded proteins and mitochondrial damage (Soto and Pritzkow, 2018). Neurodegenerative diseases mainly include Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Wilson’s disease (WD), and Huntington’s disease (HD) (Chi et al., 2018). Different diseases affect distinct areas of the brain and show unique pathological features and clinical symptoms ().
