With profound sadness, we mark the passing of Professor Shigeto Yamawaki, a distinguished Japanese psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and neuropsychopharmacologist whose career helped shape modern neuropsychopharmacology, biological psychiatry, and translational mental health research in Japan, across Asia, and throughout the international community (). For more than 4 decades, Professor Yamawaki stood at the intersection of clinical psychiatry, neuroscience, psychopharmacology, academic leadership, and international collaboration. He was not only a scholar of exceptional breadth, but also a builder of institutions, a mentor of future leaders, and a visionary who helped position Japan and Asia more prominently within global neuropsychopharmacology.
