Abstract

Virtual reality-based cognitive restorative intervention using nature (Nature-VR) did not lead to significant improvement in attention, heart failure self-care, or health-related quality of life compared with the virtual reality-based active control condition using urban environments (Urban-VR). Both the intervention and control groups had significantly improved self-care and health-related quality of life over time. There was preliminary evidence of improved executive function at 4 weeks by using the Nature-VR compared with Urban-VR after accounting for covariates, indicating a possible cognitive benefit from interacting with nature using virtual reality technology.
