Abstract

Understanding Mental Health Knowledge and Stigma Among Pharmacists in Jordan. This research looked at the level of knowledge and stigma that community pharmacists in Jordan had regarding mental health and how this may impact their ability to provide support for patients who suffer from a mental health disorder. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the lack of knowledge impacted the attitudes of community pharmacists toward patients with mental health disorders. Data were collected from a sample of 268 community pharmacists, most of whom were relatively new to the field (average age 28). Although more than half of all pharmacists reported being able to assist patients who suffer from mental health disorders (81.7%) their level of understanding of mental health issues varied significantly between them. Most of the pharmacists who participated in this study felt that they could assist patients who have mental health disorders, but not with full confidence in their ability to do so.
