Abstract
Inflammation is a protective biological response that contributes to tissue repair and host defense []. However, persistent or dysregulated inflammation is implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous chronic disorders, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and neurodegenerative diseases [,,,,]. The inflammatory response is closely associated with oxidative stress and excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which further amplify tissue injury and disease progression [,]. Therefore, agents that combine a favorable redox safety profile and anti-inflammatory properties are of great interest in the discovery of novel therapeutic strategies. Ferulic acid, a widespread phenolic compound present in plant cell walls, is known for its strong antioxidant capacity, radical scavenging properties, and multiple pharmacological effects [,,]. Both ferulic acid and its derivatives have been reported to protect against oxidative-stress-induced tissue injury [], to modulate inflammatory pathways, and to exert beneficial effects in conditions such as diabetes [], cancer [,] and neurodegenerative diseases [,]. These findings have encouraged the development of numerous ferulic acid derivatives designed to improve pharmacological efficacy, bioavailability, and biological activity while preserving the favorable properties of the parent molecule []. On the other hand, thiazolidin-4-ones represent a privileged class of heterocyclic compounds extensively studied in medicinal chemistry. Their structural scaffold has been associated with a wide spectrum of biological activities, including antimicrobial [,], anticancer [,], antitubercular [], antidiabetic [], anti-Alzheimer [,], anticonvulsant [] and especially anti-inflammatory effects [,,]. Structural versatility and ease of functionalization make thiazolidin-4-one derivatives attractive candidates for drug design. Several reports suggest that substitution patterns on the thiazolidinone ring can significantly modulate pharmacological activity, particularly in the context of anti-inflammatory potential [,].
